Fuel Up Before Boxroom Escape Games
Sixty minutes. A room full of puzzles. One very good reason to caffeinate first.
In This Guide
Your Mission Starts in Downtown Hollywood
You have 60 minutes.
Somewhere in the room is a clue you haven't noticed. Your friend is convinced the random number written on the wall means something. Someone else has been holding a key for the last ten minutes and forgot to tell anybody.
Welcome to an escape room.
Boxroom Escape Games is located at 2042 Hollywood Blvd in the heart of Downtown Hollywood, Florida. Groups of 2–10 players enter an immersive themed room and have an hour to solve puzzles, uncover clues, find keys and figure out how everything connects before the clock runs out.
It's exactly the kind of activity that rewards an alert brain.
Which brings us to coffee.
Before heading into Boxroom, make a stop at Koffee Kult at 311 S 21st Ave. We're a working coffee roastery right here in Hollywood, roasting coffee in-house since 2012.
Consider it preparation for the mission.
Why Coffee Before an Escape Room Just Makes Sense
Boxroom describes its escape rooms as "mind games" that rely on teamwork, critical thinking and logic rather than physical activity.
In other words, this isn't the afternoon to show up half asleep.
There are clues to spot, patterns to recognize and connections to make while a very visible clock reminds you that every second you spend arguing about whether that painting looks suspicious is another second gone.
So if you're planning an escape room in Downtown Hollywood, we'd recommend building coffee into the itinerary before your reservation.
And yes, we're admittedly biased.
But even Boxroom recommends showing up ready to use 100% of your brainpower.
We're just providing the beans.
The Pre-Escape Checklist
- Assemble your smartest friends
- Book your escape room
- Get coffee
- Arrive at Boxroom at least 15 minutes early
- Question everything
- Escape
- Take all the credit
That fourth one actually matters: Boxroom asks players to arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled game.
The fifth one is our contribution.
What to Order Before You Go
Your best pre-escape coffee depends on what kind of player you are.
☕ Espresso
No messing around. If your reservation is coming up and you want coffee without turning the stop into an entire event, order an espresso and get to work. Short. Focused. Efficient. Hopefully your approach to the escape room is the same.
☕ Drip Coffee
The reliable choice. Grab a freshly brewed coffee, sit for a few minutes and start discussing strategy with your team. Will that strategy immediately collapse once you're inside the room? Probably. But you'll feel prepared.
🧊 Nitro Cold Brew
If South Florida is doing what South Florida does and it's approximately nine thousand degrees outside, Nitro Cold Brew is hard to beat. Ours is slow-steeped for 24 hours at 34°F before being poured on nitrogen, giving it a smooth, creamy texture without needing ice.
🥤 Shakerato
For the person who picked an escape room because regular Saturday afternoon plans weren't interesting enough. Espresso shaken hard over ice until cold and frothy. Quick, refreshing and a little less predictable than your usual order.
Then It's Time to Escape
Caffeinated? Good.
Boxroom currently offers three escape room experiences at its Hollywood location.
Merlin's Wizarding Academy
Your group finds itself inside a secret chamber in a medieval castle once connected to King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table and Merlin himself. Magic may be involved. Unfortunately, your ability to solve puzzles still matters.
Haunted Pirate Shipwreck
A pirate-themed adventure aboard Captain Flint's ship, where you'll be searching for treasure while trying to avoid becoming a permanent member of the crew. If someone in your group says, "Guys, I think I found something," everybody should probably listen.
Operation Saving Hollywood
This one feels particularly appropriate when you're spending the day here. Your team steps into a high-tech CIA/FBI-style mission with one fairly modest objective:
Save Hollywood from destruction.
No pressure.
All three experiences are designed for groups of 2–10 players and give you 60 minutes to complete the mission.
Made It Out? You Earned Another Coffee
There are two versions of the post-escape conversation.
Version A: "We absolutely crushed that."
Version B: "I TOLD YOU THE BOOKSHELF WAS IMPORTANT."
Both conversations are better over coffee.
If you started your afternoon at Koffee Kult, you can always circle back after the game. This time there isn't a clock ticking, nobody is hiding clues from you and you don't need to inspect the bottom of the coffee cup for a secret combination.
Probably.
Sit down, decompress and argue about who actually solved the hardest puzzle.
Make an Afternoon Out of It
One of the advantages of doing an escape room at Boxroom is its location in Downtown Hollywood.
You're already near Hollywood Boulevard, Young Circle, ArtsPark, restaurants, murals and plenty of other places worth exploring before or after your game.
That makes a Boxroom reservation easy to turn into something bigger than a one-hour activity.
Start with coffee. Play the room. Then walk around Downtown Hollywood.
Or make Boxroom the centerpiece of a date afternoon, family outing or group hangout.
Escape rooms are particularly good for groups because everyone gets involved. One person notices tiny details. Someone else is good with numbers. Another person makes a completely ridiculous suggestion that somehow turns out to be correct.
And somebody contributes absolutely nothing but enthusiasm. Every team has one.
| Timing | Stop | The Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Before | Koffee Kult | Coffee first. Your brain is about to have work to do. |
| 15+ min before reservation | Boxroom | Check in, meet your team and get ready. |
| Game Time | Escape Room | You have 60 minutes. Good luck. |
| After | Downtown Hollywood | Walk, eat, explore or debate every decision your team made. |
| Victory Coffee | Koffee Kult | Optional, but considerably more satisfying if you escaped. |
Coffee Before or After? We're Voting Before.
There really isn't a wrong way to plan it.
You can play the escape room first and stop for coffee afterward. Koffee Kult makes a perfectly good place to sit down and recover once your hour of frantic clue hunting is over.
But given the choice?
Coffee first.
You've got puzzles waiting.
Boxroom itself recommends bringing 100% of your brainpower to the experience, and we'd rather not have you standing three feet away from an obvious clue wondering why nobody can figure it out.
We can't promise coffee will help you escape. We can promise that you'll have one less excuse if you don't.
