Fresh cherries from thousands of smallholder farmers in Ywangan are supplied to Mandalay Coffee Group. Each farmer usually cultivates only 0.25-2 acres, with multiple varieties of arabica inter-cropped with jackfruit, djenkol bean, papaya, and other crops. Most farmers there began cultivating coffee in the early 1980s as part of a poppy replacement initiative.
Some of the farmers in Ywangan participate in the USAID sponsored "Winrock (the organization overseeing the training and development)" workshops about agronomy, financial management, harvesting, and dry natural processing.
