National Coffee Quality Competition “Colombia, Land of Diversity” is a contest which recognizes excellence, quality, and diversity of the country’s coffee. The competition honors the dedication of coffee growers that produce the highest quality coffee. It has become a global benchmark within the specialty coffee community as the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) seeks to encourage production of specialty coffee for its national and international customers.

María Rosalina Criollo Cañar is a coffee grower born and raised in the municipality of La Florida, in the department of Nariño. She is married to Jorge Burbano and is mother of Richard Burbano Criollo. Rosalina is 52 years old and she tells us that from a very young age she helped her mother in the work of the benefit and picking of coffee, which was done in a very traditional way and without the adequate infrastructure that this process requires. Today Rosalina continues to be empowered in her work as a woman coffee grower. She has a farm cultivated with coffee in the Rosapamba village, located at 2,000 m.a.s.l., called “La Palestina”, a Greek name that evokes the fighters, fighters like Rosalina, who year after year, strives to obtain the best batches of coffee. Sowing and labors in he farm are carried out by her husband and son, while she remains with the stage where the best care of each grain is required. She drives different practices, trying to figure out which is the best methodology to obtain the best coffee lots, with the help of the collectors represented by members of their family, mostly women.
